About · Est. 2024

Built by three directors who turn up to every job.

Machells Construction is a Melbourne carpentry and construction business, founded and run by Jack Goodwin, Conor Keddy and Alex McCann.

A carpentry business, run like a construction business.

Machells was founded to do one thing properly — deliver carpentry and construction scopes that builders, developers and clients can actually rely on.

We're carpenters by trade. We know what a good frame looks like, we know what a sharp fit-out feels like, and we know what it takes to get a scope across the line without drama.

We also run the business like a business. Programs get honoured. Scopes get priced properly. Variations are written down, not assumed. Crews turn up inducted. Directors turn up on site.

Directly-employed crew, end-to-end. From labourers through to leading hands, carpenters and formworkers — our lads are on our books, not sourced through an agency. That's how the standard stays consistent, whether we're delivering the full scope or sending a crew to run yours.

Three directors.
One point of accountability.

Every project is overseen by one of us. No middle layer, no message-relay. The person running your job has authority to make calls on site.

Jack Goodwin
Director · Safety & Operations

Jack Goodwin

Jack owns safety, compliance, documentation, scheduling and subcontractor coordination across live projects. He keeps the back-end of the business moving.

On a Machells project, Jack is the one ensuring SWMS, inductions, ITPs and programs are in place before day one — not chased at 7am.

Conor Keddy
Director · Delivery & Site

Conor Keddy

Conor owns on-site delivery, crew management, program and build quality. He started on the tools and runs the job from site establishment through to PC.

On a Machells project, Conor is the one across the site every week — coordinating crews, running QA, and owning the build standard.

Alex McCann
Director · Commercial & Client

Alex McCann

Alex owns client relationships, enquiries, quoting and commercial management across the business. He's the first point of contact on every new scope.

On a Machells project, Alex is the one ensuring the commercial side stays tight — from quote to variation to final account.

Five principles. No slogans.

We don't have a wall full of corporate values. We have a handful of operating principles that decide how we actually behave when something goes sideways on site.

01

Own the scope.

We don't take work we can't deliver. If we take it, we own it — from the first RFI to the last defect.

02

Say what's true.

Bad news early beats good news late. Clients get the real version — on program, on budget, on scope.

03

Run the program.

The program is a contract, not a suggestion. If something changes, the change is documented and communicated — not absorbed quietly.

04

Document the work.

SWMS, ITPs, variations, RFIs — all written down. No verbal agreements that evaporate at handover.

05

Leave it better.

Clean sites, tidy handovers, defects closed out. The relationship doesn't end at practical completion — it's how the next job starts.

The basics, covered.

Fully insured. Public liability and workers' compensation in full coverage. ABN 24 681 868 959.

Every crew member carries a current White Card, trade qualifications and documented site inductions.

Insurance certificates, licences, and a full capability statement are available on request — we'd rather send them before you ask.
