Carpentry the way these houses were built.

Melbourne's heritage housing stock is one of the biggest in Australia — and it demands a different kind of carpentry to a new build. Hand-matched mouldings. Bullnose verandahs set out from the original radius. Period-correct framing behind a restored facade. Detail that stops a heritage advisor in their tracks, for the right reasons.

We run heritage scopes the way these buildings were originally built — with respect for the craft, and with a director across the detail. Council heritage-overlay submissions, conservation management plan compliance, and integration with heritage consultants are all part of how we work on these jobs.

What we deliver.

  • Full heritage restoration — Victorian, Edwardian, Federation, Californian Bungalow, Art Deco
  • Heritage-overlay extensions and additions, integrated with the existing structure
  • Verandah restoration — bullnose, ogee, concave and convex roof forms, posts and brackets
  • Period-correct timber mouldings — architraves, skirtings, picture rails, dado rails, cornices
  • Timber fretwork, brackets, corbels, spindles and balustrading to original profiles
  • Timber floor restoration — board matching, subfloor repair, sanding-ready relay
  • Sash window restoration, reveals, double-hung mechanism re-commissioning
  • Pressed-metal ceiling integration with timber cornices and battens
  • Heritage fence, gate and picket rebuilds to original streetscape
  • Council heritage-overlay drawings and submissions in coordination with the heritage consultant

Patient work, done once, done right.

Heritage carpentry isn't about speed — it's about getting the detail right the first time. We survey the existing fabric before we price, photograph and record profiles, and source matching timbers and mouldings before we start on-site. That's the work that makes the finished job look like it's always been there.

Respect for the original fabric. We salvage and reuse original timber where it can be saved, and match profiles precisely where it can't. Nothing gets ripped out because it's faster — decisions are made by the director, on-site, with the heritage consultant in the loop.

Heritage-overlay approvals handled. We work with heritage consultants and council planners to get submissions right first time. We've been through the process — we know what triggers a referral, what sails through, and how to document conservation intent.

Modern extensions, heritage-sympathetic. When the brief is a rear extension behind a heritage frontage, we deliver contemporary work that sits respectfully against the original — not a pastiche, not a conflict.

When to call us.

  • Heritage-overlay properties needing restoration, extension or renovation
  • Inner-Melbourne Victorian terraces, Edwardian semis, Federation cottages
  • Projects where a heritage consultant is engaged and period-correct detail is non-negotiable
  • Architects and homeowners needing a carpentry partner who understands conservation, not just construction
  • Insurance repair and rebuild on heritage-listed properties after storm, fire or water damage

Common questions.

Do you handle council heritage-overlay approvals?
We don't lodge heritage permits ourselves — that's the architect's or heritage consultant's role — but we'll provide whatever supporting documentation, conservation schedules and trade specifications they need. We've been through the process enough times to know what reviewers look for.

Can you match period mouldings that are no longer stocked?
Yes. We work with Melbourne moulding mills who cut-to-profile from a sample or a photograph. Matched timber species, matched profiles, matched finish.

How do you price heritage work — it varies so much?
We survey before we price. On significant heritage scopes, we do a paid pre-contract survey so the quote is based on real measurements, real existing-condition findings, and a real scope — not assumptions. Saves everyone the cost-blowout conversation later.

Do you do heritage insurance repair work?
Yes, direct with homeowners and via their builder or loss adjuster. Storm, fire, flood and water damage on heritage properties is a specific skillset — we've got it.

Heritage project in the works?
Send us the brief.

Drawings, heritage advice, photos of the existing condition — we'll respond within one business day and book a site walk-through if it's the right fit.
