The scope. Setout and construction of a custom spiral staircase as part of a high-end private residential fit-out.
Feature stairs are pure setout. A spiral stair has no forgiving dimensions. Rise and going have to be consistent through the full turn, the centre has to hold true, and every tread lands on a geometry that was decided before the first cut. Get the setout wrong and there is no adjusting it later — the stair is rebuilt.
Where carpentry meets the architect. Feature elements on Toorak residential work are drawn in detail and inspected closely. The carpentry has to read the drawings precisely and hold tolerances tight enough that the finisher and the balustrade contractor can work to what we leave them.
